And So the Internship Begins!

I started my internship with Roots & Wisdom (see previous post about the program here) yesterday. I will be working as the Events and Outreach Coordinator for 10 weeks. The Roots & Wisdom office is part of the Cornell Cooperative Extension Schenectady Office Suite in Schenectady, NY. She and I set down together and she asked me what I thought this internship would be…

Shannon, Sarah, Mike, and I sang the Veggie (W)Rap out visitors to the garden today. We only sang three versus. There are more.

Today I job shadowed at GE Global Research. A family friend helped coordinate my visit. I had a great time. I met a man from my home town whose environmental interests also started with organic agriculture. He set up meetings for me with a water expert who facilitates water efficiency and cleanliness and a man who works similarly with waste. The woman I met with today works on remediation and Life Cycle Analysis. She was very interesting to talk to. I have always loved water, but she dealt a lot more with some really interesting sustainability stuff. I also met with the head of their lab. He was very nice and he gave me some information and advice about the different types of internships they offer at their site on the other city near me. At the end of my visit, my host brought me to meet a woman who is connected with Roots & Wisdom. She had heard I was visiting and wanted to meet me. I remembered her face so I know I have seen her before. She was very nice and showed me a presentation she was going to give to hopefully get some grant money to improve the garden site. All in all I had a tiring but rewardingly fun and interesting day.

Dream Log: Awesomeness with a little scary bit thrown in

dreams-catherine-grace:

DREAM

So this dream was pretty long and complicated feeling. It skipped around a bit so I may not remember everything in order. I am also pretty sure that most of the dream was a dream that I had years ago.

The dream started out with me just hanging out with some people. One of the guys was supposed to be Robert and for a little while one of the girls was Shannon. We were escaping from a big scary guy, but all we did was escape up some stairs and ended up on the second floor of my house. We were in my room and I decided to risk running to the bathroom because I really had to go. I was able to run back to the others and lock the door before the man caught up to us.

The scene then changed to an older setting. I was actually seeing the scene in sepia. I ended up clenching my jaw from worry and my teeth ended up starting to break and fall out. The teeth thing continued scattered throughout the rest of the dream…

At this point, Robert was replaced by a guy I do not know, but in the dream he felt familiar. I was also with a few girls who I knew in the dream and Javasha from work. We were escaping from a source of dark magic. The first thing we ran from was enchanted water that was trying to kill us. We ended p outside and it was sunny and the grass was green and we used magical kites to help us fly away. We were still running, but I felt happy.

Then, we skipped into the future a bit and my teeth started being weird again. My dad was there and he was fighting something evil. He knew what it was but wouldn’t share but we knew something was wrong and went on instinct to try to help me dad. I was afraid of losing my dad and I was with about three others and we were traveling to where we would be able to be safe and plot against the evil. Out of body I saw some dogs in a side room where my dad disappeared into and they were there to help us. The dream ended with me sitting in a dark room of our shelter with my companions. At one point I also looked in the mirror at my teeth and the didn’t look to broken but they had shifted an impossible amount inside my mouth.

THOUGHTS

Overall the dream was pretty cool. I enjoyed the happy moments and the moments I with friends and allies in the dream. Plotting to fight evil with magic is good. The scary parts were thinking something was going to happen to my dad and when my teeth were moving and breaking.

I hung out with Robert and Shannon this week and they are two of my best friends so it would make sense they were in my dream. Javasha works with me so that makes since too. My jaw has been bothering me so the tooth thing must have come from that. We saw Harry Potter this week (:D!) and I watched Stardust with Robert. My guess is that is where the strong magical influence came from, but it is always likely for me to dream about magic. I think magic, friendship, and boys are the things I dream about most :P
